Ideas

A Digital and AI for Good pioneer, Hamilton’s book Artificial Integrity introduces the eponymous concept and discipline he originated. Artificial Integrity is the discipline aiming at advancing AI systems capable of demonstrating integrity-like behavioural patterns, exhibiting ethical, moral and social reasoning while being continuously assessable in that capacity. It shifts the focus from maximising intelligence to the imperative of upholding integrity above all else. It implies crash-testing AI models against benchmarks that evaluate the degree to which their integrity-led behavioural capacities are robustly internalised in the models themselves and are self-generated, while remaining value-consistent under ambiguity, context change, hostile or antagonistic conditions, even when predefined ethical rules are blurry or undefined.

Bio

An executive at Thales, Hamilton co-leads the group-wide AI initiative and digital transformation and oversees the company’s global digital marketing activities. Some of his achievements have been featured in a case study by IMD. Hamilton is a doctoral researcher in AI at Ecole National des Ponts et Chaussées – Institut Polytechnique de Paris; a senior lecturer at INSEAD and HEC Paris; and a mentor at the MIT Priscilla King Gray (PKG) Center. He has spoken at major international conferences, including the Global Peter Drucker Forum and the Web Summit. Artificial Integrity was selected as a Must Read of 2024 and one of the Top 10 Essential Reads on AI for 2025 by the Next Big Idea Club. He has contributed a chapter on three books, including Driving Sustainable Innovation: How to Do Well While Doing Good; Connectedness: How the Best Leaders Create Authentic Human Connection in a Disconnected World; and GAIN: Demystifying GenAI for office and home. He hosts The Hamilton Mann Conversation, a podcast aiming to democratise knowledge about how digital technology, including AI, can be a force for good in society.
