Tristan’s research examines evaluation processes in market and organisational contexts to improve our understanding of stratification, careers, and entrepreneurship. A contribution of Tristan’s work on evaluations is showing how the design and structure of evaluation processes contribute to inequality. He has shown this in contexts ranging from online platforms to entrepreneurship to hiring. Tristan also works on questions around entrepreneurship and careers, recently examining how failure in high-tech startups affects the careers of their founders and employees. His research has been recognised with various awards from the Academy of Management and INFORMS and has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals.
An associate professor of organisational behaviour at Yale School of Management, Tristan is also a faculty affiliate of the Program on Entrepreneurship and the Computation and Society Initiative and co-organises the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Seminar. He received his PhD from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 2017. Tristan serves on the editorial board of Administrative Science Quarterly and Organization Science, and his research and teaching have received coverage from various media outlets including Bloomberg, The Financial Times, New York Post, Poets & Quants, and Quartz. Prior to academia, Tristan worked in investment banking and strategic corporate finance.
