Ideas

Porras researches the characteristics of visionary companies, the dynamics of planned organizational change process, organizational vision and its influence on the long-term behaviour of organizations, and leadership. His book (with Jim Collins) Built to Last provides a master blueprint for building organizations that prosper long term and a framework of practical concepts that can be applied by managers and entrepreneurs at all levels. In Success Built to Last, Porras challenges conventional wisdom to discover why successful people stay successful. Enabling individuals to build successful organizations, he says, is a powerful catalyst for the creation of successful, healthy societies.

 

Bio

Porras is the Lane professor of organizational behaviour, emeritus at Stanford Graduate School of Business, having joined the faculty in 1972. He served as a Business School Trust faculty fellow as well as a Robert M and Anne T Bass faculty fellow and was the associate dean of academic affairs at the Graduate School of Business from 1991-1994. Honours received include the Brilliante Award from the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, the Silver Apple Award from the Stanford Business School Alumni Association, and the Kanter Medal from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology.
