José Parra Moyano is on a mission to help business leaders employ digital technology not just to enhance the value of their own firms but also to shape a positive future for society. His research focuses on the societal implications of technologies such as blockchain, data analytics, and privacy-preserving techniques. José explores the impact of digital innovation on economic performance, particularly on the role that data and AI can play in solving organisational as well as societal problems and how firms can create sustainable value in the digital economy. The captivating aspect of digital technology, he says, is its ability to foster novel interactions between companies and individuals and thereby facilitate previously unattainable relationships and transactions.
Professor of digital strategy at IMD and an award-winning teacher, José is also founder of his own successful startup, Lionstep, which developed data-driven algorithms for HR departments. He teaches in a variety of programs on the topic of AI, strategy, and innovation and is also a research fellow at the Centre for Blockchain Technologies at University College London. Previously he was a fellow at the Center of Excellence of The Digital Economist. Before joining IMD in 2023, José was assistant professor at Copenhagen Business School’s Department of Digitalization. He also served as a guest professor at Mannheim Business School, the University of Bern, and Rochester-Bern Business School.
