What drives the work of the world’s leading management thinkers?
That was the question posed at Thinkers50@BUQuestrom: Passion & Purpose, a live virtual event held at Boston University Questrom School of Business on 20th April 2023.
Co-sponsored by Thinkers50, Passion & Purpose sought to uncover the motivation behind top management thinkers: What inspires their research? What gets them out of bed in the morning? How do they translate their passions into purpose and impact for business?
To challenge the thinkers a little further, each one had just 15 minutes to deliver their idea – including questions from the audience.
Joining remotely from Harvard Business School, Frances Frei began her Passion and Purpose 15 minutes by describing how, during the Covid pandemic, she became struck by a deep sense of obligation to democratize education – in fact to democratize everything she knows.
Her most recent book, co-authored with Anne Morriss, is Unleashed: The Unapologetic Leader’s Guide to Empowering Everyone and You (HBR Press 2020). Since then, Frei and Morriss’ passions have turned to how to improve the spread of ideas to all corners of the world, and the big idea of their forthcoming book, Move Fast and Fix Things, is that problems, even the biggest problems, can be fixed fast.
The more reasons we have to slow things down, Frei argued, the more difficult change is going to be.
