Left a lucrative career in management consulting to study burnout.

Triple distinctions for proposal hearing, final defence hearing, and dissertation research, University of Pennsylvania.

In her 2024 book, Burnout Immunity, Kandi explores the growing problem of burnout and provides practical strategies for individuals to build resilience and cultivate a healthier relationship with work. Drawing on her extensive research, Kandi identifies the common thread between those who manage to avoid burnout at work, despite high levels of stress: they exhibit a high degree of emotional intelligence (EI). EI skills, she explains, help them to perceive, understand, and manage emotions, thoughts and behaviours. Kandi provides practical tips for how to cultivate and develop EI skills through five key areas: awareness, regulation, meaningful connections, mindset, and 3Rx methods — recover, reconnect, and reimagine.

Senior fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, Kandi is also co-director of the Penn Master’s in Medical Education Program and the Penn Health Professions Education Certificate Program, and Academic director of the PennCLO Executive Doctoral Program. She frequently teaches graduate-level and executive format programs across UPenn, including The Graduate School of Education and Wharton Executive Education. and Wharton Executive Education. She received her EdD from the University of Pennsylvania, MBA from the University of Oregon, and bachelor’s degree from the University of Montana.
