The Wellcome Foundation was created in the late 1800s with an idea to compress medicines into pill form. Throughout the 1900s they continued to grow and create new medicines. In the 1980s however, manufacturing was leaving London and the Wellcome Foundation began to face challenges involving the increasing costs of manufacturing and R&D, as well as technology being incorporated into back-office operations.
