For the past few years I’ve been working on a book about the future of manufacturing and the consequences of these changes for business strategy, the economy, and society as a whole. That book is now coming out. The book is The Pan-Industrial Revolution: How New Manufacturing Titans Will Transform the World (October 16, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt).
With 3-D printing now moving into mass production, we’re entering an era of business transformation, the biggest leap in manufacturing innovation since the assembly line. 3-D printing will restructure industry and give rise to a new kind of giant company, the Pan-industrial—a highly diversified firm that achieves operational synergies, and is not organized by product divisions, but rather by digital threads. These firms will eventually dominate the globaleconomy and drive far-reaching social, political, and economic change that will benefit the consumer and threaten democracy and capitalism as we know them today. I’m eager to hear what you think of the book.
